It's all in the Name

Naming your baby…it’s a tough one! So sometimes you have in mind a name, which you might have had forever, and your baby comes along and just doesn’t suit it. Perhaps you’re going after a family name, which kind of makes things easier. Or perhaps you have a list as long as your arm and you just can’t agree. Wherever you’re at with finalising a name, hopefully this blog will give you a steer or it might just give you more names to consider! Sorry!

We didn’t find out the sex of either of our boys so we had a boys and girls list…on the notes on my phone (which I still have)…with about 5 names on each. The list didn’t change one bit second time round and we still couldn’t name him straight away. One thing we quickly found out about choosing a name, and I’m sure many of you reading this have realised this too…is that everyone and I mean EVERYONE has an opinion on the names you like! ‘Oh i went to school with one of those and he was awful’… ‘oh wasn’t that strange guy down the street called that?’… ‘oh no that’s too much of a mouthful’.

One piece of advice…try and keep your list to yourself, ha! It’s safe to say that when we decided on Rex we had an influx of ‘Why have you named him after a dog?’, ‘It’s not too late to change his name’…we have a very honest family and we don’t take offence so this was water off a ducks back to us (thankfully). We also had many a funny look when we told people his name!

So…I have a 'secret place' for checking out some good solid traditional names…which might help you out…we looked at the old census records for ideas. It’s a great base for finding a name and for giving you some ideas. This is the one we used… click here

Still none the wiser...Apparently some of the names below are going to be popular in 2019! From Cartoons, popular box sets, 70’s names and places:
